Netbooks for Students
Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 1:35AM New excuses are going to be needed for high school students who used to claim “My dog ate my homework.” Or “I didn’t remember what the assignment was.” Or “I lost my pen/pencil/theme tablet.” All Howe High School students have been issued electronic notebooks, on which students will be able to get assignments, turn in assignments, and get feedback from teachers about those assignments…and in most instances within a day or two.
In the works are procedures for parents to use the system to get on-line with teachers about such items asstudent grades and attendance. Teachers are able to monitor student work while the class is in session as well as helping the student at home. Students will be able to take home those notebooks to work on assignments (and maybe get their notebook batteries recharged.) Students will turn in homework or get teacher help by using an electronic “drop box.” The students do not have to appear in class to turn in an assignment.
A step, perhaps, towards the paperless-school concept, if such a thing is possible.
