ALUMNI ASSOCIATION...
Thank you for continuing to forward changes of your address, telephone or email information to the Alumni Association. The new info will be updated on the alumni database and on the class roster. Forward changes to canney999@cs.com or by calling 812-352-4143.

Email address' are a big problem to keep updated. Just sending this class newsletter I found over a half dozen more email addresses obsolete.
Do I have any volunteers from our class to make some telephone calls to some of our classmates and help search for updated email address'? You don't have to be an Indiana resident if you have free weekend calls on your cell phones. We had a fairly good updated list until recently when all of a sudden many of our friends took a left turn. Now, our current ‘57 email roster is lacking severally which puts a hindrance on their receiving current info from the alumni association as well as our classmates.

(Also, special request: If you have brothers, sisters, any family or friend who graduated from Howe High School please notify the alumni association with any address or information update. Thank you.)

The annual All Howe Alumni Get-Together has extended their reunion celebration by adding other events to the program. Please note the following and mark your calendars to attend. Thanks to the hard working group of classmates who have put this program together for all alumni to enjoy.

NETWORKING...
The Thomas Carr Howe High School website is FREE and available for your enjoyment. You can browse this site at www.tchhs.com. You can locate any classmate from any year, read the message boards or post a message to someone you might be searching and keep up with recent alumni happenings. Your entire class roster is easily accessible for your browsing by clicking on the ‘find a classmate' icon on the home page and typing in the year 1957.

If you are interested in receiving the Howe Chat line address link please contact me at canney999@cs.com and I will forward the information. It is a fun site that has been in existence for over seven years. Alumni from several classes have reconnected and do a lot of reminiscing of times, places, sports and people. We would love to have you join us.

The Howe Alumni Association newsletter has it's own website. Yes, the HOWE NOW newsletter is now digital and can be read online at www.thehowenow.com thanks to Keith Blazak, ‘88 who designed and set up the website. The associations cost to mail the newsletter twice a year to 13,000 alumni became a huge financial burden so it has been modernized for the new age. You can also browse issues of the newsletters back to 1970 in the website archives. Thanks to Keith for all his hard work.

SPECIAL THANKS...
Thank you...Marilyn Jenkins, Mel Seitz, Dianne Simons Cox, Bob Thompson, (states the class newsletter keeps us in touch with an important part of our lives.), Ken Ray, Judy Scott Padgett (states she thoroughly enjoyed), Larry Eicher and Jerry Emery, thanks to all for your special notes that you enjoy our class newsletter.

My thanks to everyone for sending your bits of news. Please continue to send your tidbits and thoughts, you are the loop, you are the newsletter.

ODDS AND ENDS...

To top our list of Odds and Ends this newsletter I cannot go without stating what an incredible Basketball program Butler University had for the 2009/2010 season. Many of our classmates attended Butler and all of us at one time or another attended or participated in an event on that beautiful campus.
It was easy to relate to the excitement of this year's team because of our memories and thrill we all shared when Milan in 1954 won the State championship tournament.
We could only imagine the thrill for classmate Gordon Hayward as he watched his amazingly talented grandson Gordon Hayward III playing his heart out to help take Butler to the top. Congratulations to Gordon and his family.

Classmate Steve Wise has an interesting ancestral past that he shared. His great, great Uncle was Lt. Presley Neville O'Bannon, USMC (1776-1850), who was the 1st American to put a US flag on foreign soil at Derne, Tripoli in 1805. To read further of this hero type his name in your search bar. Congrats Steve, now we know where you inherited your tenacity to stand up for your convictions.

April 2nd was a day of visiting, shopping and lunch for Phyllis Cline Winbun and Carol Yeager . It was so good to see Phyllis recovering so nicely from her resent kidney surgery. Our continued healing prayers go out to Phyllis.

It was April 15 at Jackamo's in Irvington that a large group of Howe alumni gals met for lunch and visiting. Out of the 20 in attendance those from the class of ‘57 were: Bonnie Carter Young, Carol Yeager, Phyllis Cline Winbun, Glenda Hunsucker Wright, Glenda Aldrich Hartley, Beverly Conaway Easton, and Willie McCleery Schaekel.

Classmate Jim Treanor celebrated his July birthday in New Jersey while visiting family and friends. They do have a way of making our birthdays special.

A new career for Marilyn Jenkins! Marilyn is very excited to now be working as a representative for Avon Cosmetics, congrats Marilyn. See her website at www.youravon.com/marilynjenkins

After 35 years in the same house classmate Marcia Rasener Cassidy and husband Cass moved to a new home in the same neighborhood. Her idea of downsizing was to get on one level, that's one way of justifying it Marcia.

Ken Ray could hardly pull himself from the TV during the Colts games last winter. Even though Ken and wife Judy are residents of Avon Park, Florida they are strong supporters of the Indiana teams. That's OK Ken your always welcome back home.

Our class has a lot of world travelers and among those are Bob Thompson and wife Michelle. They love to travel and have special memories of their trips to Costa Rico, Jamaica, other Carribean Islands, Mexico, South America, Alaska, the Black Sea countries and the beautiful Mediterranean. When not traveling Bob spends time on the golf course and gardening......certainly no time for surgeries Bob.

Our own Jerry Emery has declared this is his 7th and final year as National President of the Lincoln Zephyr Owners club. He and wife Roz have been very active with antique cars for many years.

Lou Sharp our classmate who lives in Alexandria, VA, again, spent some very special time in Oahu and Maui, Hawaii in March with good friends. He loves watching the sunsets and sunrises from that part of the world before returning to his swim clinic in VA.

It was really nice having Lynne Archer Corboz spend just shy of a year in Indiana even though the circumstances were not the reason of choice, her mother's illness. Lynne and Carol Yeager did have fun learning the ropes at the local auction house, Lynne the business and Carol for support. Lynne returned to her home in Mission Viejo, CA April 16, 2010.

It was off to the Bahama's for Bonnie Carter Young and her family in June. Each year Bonnie takes her son, daughter and grandchildren on a family cruise.

A huge congratulations to classmate Sue Raymer Woods for her contribution of her work to a new book titled ‘Eleven Voices' released May 2010. Sue has an incredible gift for writing poetry and along with ten (10) other writers they self published their work. Run, don't walk to Amazon.com and purchase this book. That's ‘Eleven Voices' at Amazon.com. We are very proud of you Sue.

We send our condolences to classmate Carol Frazier Combs in the loss of her husband Jim who passed away July 17, 2010.

Thanks to all the classmates who dropped me, Carol Yeager , a note or called on my birthday. One call was a surprise when I said ‘hello' the Happy Birthday song was being played on a harmonica, it was our own Jim Goussy from Austin, TX with his unique greeting.

Our classmate Mary Price Wade is still actively making her many adventurous trips and excursions. Besides her trips to MS and WI visiting family Mary spent a week in CA. The last week of July Mary with friend and classmate Carolyn Wiggins Monroe and her sister Linda went to San Francisco. They met up with Sue Raymer Woods on the 26th for an enjoyable dinner and tour of SF. The gals made the touring circuit around the northern part of California having such a good time seeing the sights.
I'm still waving Mary as you pass through.

A trip that tops all trips was classmate Ron Christopher and wife Carol who left their home in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida in May traveling north then after a substantial amount of time visiting they moseyed across country stopping whenever and at whatever they happen to choice to do for that day or time. They visited Ron's hometown of Huntingburg, IN, all their children and grandchildren, relatives and friends along the way from the Midwest to Seattle, WA and finally back to Florida in August. I eagerly awaited each email to see what National Park, city or sight they had visited, what a dream trip. Thanks for sharing Ron and Carol.
I had the privilege of joining Ron and Carol for breakfast on the 25th of May at the Bob Evans in Columbus, IN, what a treat, what a special couple.

August 19th had the Rock-ola Restaurant on the Eastside buzzing with fun and memories to many alumni from several classes but those from the class of '57 were: Dianne Simons Cox, Judie Disher Breitzke, Bonnie Carter Young, Bob Deeter, Satch Carmichael, Dan Kaga, Marcia Rasener Cassidy, Brenda Bowden Lawson and Judy Scott Padgett.

A thought......
'There's nothing worse than a good thing in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong person?'

And remember......'Life is full of uncertainties....eat dessert first!!'

Honor our heroes who have sacrificed so that we may enjoy the freedoms we have today and please remember their families.

PLEASE VOTE IN THIS IMPORTANT ELECTION!!!
